ROTAX SETUP RECOMMENDATIONS
ENGINE
Important - Do not remove the factory engine seal. Only Trackmagic is authorized to remove and install engine seals. There is a $250 resealing fee for engines with broken seals.
Your Rotax Max engine is designed for approximately 50 hrs of run time between rebuilds. Trackmagic is the only authorized service center in northern California to break the engine seal and rebuild the motor.
Add Redline "Water Wetter" or acceptable substitute to the cooling
system. Follow manufacturers' specifications. It is important to keep the battery well charged. Failure to do so may result in the engine misfiring and running improperly.
Each Rotax engine comes with an Identity Card that contains the engine serial number and engine seal number. It is important that you keep this Identity Card with you as it will be required at race events.
ENGINE BREAK-IN
Pre-mix gas at 6 ounces of castor oil per 1 gallon of fuel. Do not use synthetic oil.
Run the kart for 6 sessions at 10 minutes each. Allow engine to cool between sessions.
First session should be driven at a moderately slow pace of gentle accelerations and decelerations. Each consecutive session should increase in pace with the final session being run at three quarters speed.
Failure to follow this exact break-in procedure may result in severe damage to the engine.
BASELINE CHASSIS SET-UP
Make sure all nuts and bolts are properly tightened. All steering and brake components should be safety wired.
Your Trackmagic kart is an all-metric go-kart. The nuts, bolts, and components are manufactured in metric sizes.

SEAT DIMENSIONS
The following seat numbers are offered as a good initial starting point. Keep in mind that your ultimate seat settings will be a result of your personal handling preferences. In general, raising or lowering will change the center of gravity of the kart, which will primarily influence tire side bite.
The higher the seat/seat back = more side bite. Lower the seat/seat back = less side bite.
- Measurement #1
Measuring from the face of the front chassis tube (where your heel rests) back to the front lip of the seat that rests under your thigh. There are two measurements one left and one right:
Right: 23.50"
Left: 23.25".
Bottom of seat should hang approximately a 1/8" below the frame.
- Measurement #2
Measuring from the top of the axle to the upper lip of the seat back should be 9.50".
It will be important at some point after initially running the kart to check it for proper weight distribution. Recommended starting percentages are 42% of the total weight on the front and 58% in the rear. Individual corner weights should be within five to eight lbs. of each other. Example: left front 60 lbs, right front 60 lbs, left rear 140 lbs, right rear 140 lbs.
FRONT & REAR TRACK WIDTH
Measuring side to side from the outer-most edge of the tire and wheel should be approximately:
43.5" (2 thick wheel spacers, 1 thin on inside of wheel) in front
54.5" in rear.
INNER LEFT SIDE RAIL
Completely remove the inner left side rail.
TIRE PRESSURES
Tire pressure varies as to the compound being used therefore no single tire pressure will be able to accommodate all situations. For hard compound tires (Bridgestone YDS or comparable) the tire pressure should range between 20psi to 28psi front to rear. Softer compounds (Vega Red/Bridgestone YGC or comparable) should be set between 9psi to 15psi.
Tire circumference is also very critical. It is important to always measure the tire circumference when placing a new set of tires on your kart. The circumference should be equal side to side in the front and rear tires. Example: 33" right and left front, 35" right and left rear.
SEAT STRUTS
The use of seat struts is highly recommended. There are two types of seat struts available, the popular Trackmagic Urethane struts and the standard style.
The special Urethane struts are strongly recommended because Trackmagic designed them for your Trackmagic kart.
It is recommended when using seat struts to remove the upper seat bolts from the welded chassis seat mounts.
