MAGIC CAN SETUP
MAGIC CAN SETUP
The Magic Can is a fuel reservoir that allows kart engines that employ a fuel pump as part of their system to deliver fuel to the carburetor in a non pressurized state. This simple device employs no moving parts and is not a fuel pressure regulator. The Magic Can is simple a container with one feed line from the fuel pump, a return line to the fuel tank and a feed line to the carburetor. When properly installed in a kart fuel system the Magic Can will give a lifetime of gravity fed fuel to the carburetor. Follow these simple instructions and your fuel delivery problems will be a thing of the past.
Install the fuel pump on the back of the seat. Place the pump no more than 8" away front the pulse tube of the engine. Run a 5/16" pulse hose from the engine to the fuel pump. Make sure to use fuel hose for the pulse line.
Run a 5/16" fuel hose from the fuel tank to the "in" side of the fuel pump. On this hose, place a fuel filter approximately 6" to 8" away from the fuel tank.
Run a fuel hose from the "out" side of the fuel pump to the short (center) tube on the Magic Can.
Please the Magic Can directly above the carburetor. It is a good idea to fabricate a bracket to hold the Magic Can. Runa 5/16" fuel hose from the long tube on the bottom or the Magic Can to the fuel inlet of the carburetor.
Now that the fuel feed side is done, we are ready to finish the installation. The Magic Can has a larger 3/8" fuel outlet tube tube at the top. For the Magic Can to operate properly, the return hose to the fuel tank must be 3/8". Use a 5/8" hose on the return line WILL cause the Magic Can to be pressurized by the output of the fuel pump. The return hose should go into the top of the fuel tank, either at the cap or through a 3/8" fitting placed at the top of the tank. Make sure that the return hose is not plunged into the fuel in the tank.
To finish the installation, make sure all the hoses are free of kinks and or sharp bends. If any hoses run close to the engine, its a good idea to wrap them with an insulating material or pass them through a larger piece of hose. Secure everything with zip ties and you are ready to race.
